Twenty Gothic

Twenty Gothic
"[Twenty Gothic is like] a skyscraper put on its side over a subway system; it’s great." — Former Toronto Mayor David Miller, 2009 Toronto Urban Design Awards

Twenty Gothic is a 175 unit mid-rise condominium that spans over the west end of the High Park Subway Station on Toronto’s Bloor/Danforth TTC line. Nestled in the middle of a city block, Twenty Gothic is hidden by a canopy of mature trees.

This intimate 8 storey condominium is architecturally modern while complimenting the neighbourhood homes. One of the few condominium buildings in the city to straddle Toronto’s subway line, Twenty Gothic sets precedents for the latest technologies in acoustic and vibration engineering. The additional costs associated with the complex structure to span the subway, reduce sound and dampen vibration were offset by the  design of an above grade parking structure. This was possible due to an existing change in grade from one side of the subway line to the other. This means that the highest parking level is at the main lobby at the higher grade on Gothic Avenue, while the above grade parking levels are hidden behind the subway line.
